The employees of the internal security department and the main investigation department of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), under the procedural control of the prosecutor’s office, have detained an operative of an SBU unit in Kyiv region for bribery, the SBU’s press service has reported.

According to the report, SBU officers established that an employee of the SBU’s main directorate in Kyiv and the Kyiv region demanded $5,000 from the director of a preschool institution in the region.

“He demanded that the official provide documentation for carrying out repairs in the institution. Despite the absence of violations, the bribe-taker promised to ‘find’ them in case of non-payment of money. The major also planned to ‘bring’ to the kindergarten a food supplier whose products did not meet the established standards,” the report says.

Law enforcers detained the operative in a district center in Kyiv region after he received the second portion of a bribe. Criminal proceedings have been opened under Part 3, Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

Investigative actions are continuing.
