You're reading: SBU says 10 valuable cultural items missing from Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra

Officers of the State Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), who were involved in an inspection carried out by the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine at the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate, have established that as many as ten items of cultural value have been missing from the Lavra and, thus, launched a criminal investigation into the case.

“Based on the information provided by the SBU, the investigative department of the National Police has registered criminal proceedings under Part 3 of Article 191 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (misappropriation, embezzlement of property or seizing it by abusing official position) on embezzlement of valuables that were deposited with officials of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra,” the SBU’s press center said.

The investigation is underway.
