Counterintelligence officers of Ukraine’s SBU Security Service have warned of an assassination attempt by Russian special services of former high-ranking officials of the judicial system, the SBU’s press center has said.

“SBU agents documented that Russian special services recruited a Ukrainian citizen who was serving a sentence in the temporarily occupied territory of Donbas. He was released from prison and agreed to carry out sabotage, reconnaissance and terrorist assignments on the territory of Ukraine,” the press center said on May 8 on its website.

SBU agents learned the suspect in March 2018 received a task from a career officer of the Russian special services to carry out the terrorist attack against a representative of the Ukrainian judicial system.

Counterintelligence operatives together with the soldiers of the special unit of the SBU ‘Alfa’ detained the intruder while trying to enter the judge’s residence.
