You're reading: SBU warns about provocations on Maidan anniversary

Ukraine’s SBU Security Service is calling on citizens to be vigilant and beware of provocations at the so-called “last Maidan” advertised on the Internet.

“There is freedom of speech in Ukraine and we do not have the means or the ability to block Internet content. The Russia Federation is currently attempting to manipulate and distort the right of Ukrainians to receive information on the Internet,” the head of the SBU’s personnel office Oleksandr Tkachuk said during a briefing on Feb. 15.

He said websites administered from the Russian Federation are appearing on the Internet and disseminating information about mass protests in Kyiv.

“One of the memes is that ‘the last Maidan’ is set to kick off in Kyiv,” Tkachuk said.

Tkachuk said the SBU is calling on Ukrainians not to be swayed by calls for violence coming from the Russian Federation.

“We ask citizens to be careful and always check the source of information they read on the Internet,” he said.
