Law enforcers are currently conducting a special operation in 15 regions as part of inquiry into former heads of regional branches of the Income and Tax Ministry of Ukraine that were involved in the illegal tax scheme associated with the former income and tax minister, Oleksandr Klymenko, Chief Military Prosecutor of Ukraine Anatoly Matios said.

“On May 24, 2016, at the instruction of the prosecutor general, investigations into the economic bloc of Yanukovych’s criminal organization were transferred to Chief Military Prosecutor’s Office, part of the cases have already been sent to court, an inquiry has been launched into former income and tax minister Klymenko, who is already prosecuted for illegal refund of Hr 3 billion of VAT. At the moment, an operation is taking place against the then heads and their deputies in all 15 regional departments of the Income and Tax Ministry, the so-called state tax administrations, who were directly involved in the organization of a tax fraud, which resulted in the state falling short of… Hr 97 billion,” Matios said at a briefing at Zhuliany Airport (Kyiv) on May 24.
