Natalia Kaplan, a cousin of political prisoner Oleh Sentsov being held in Russia, has said she has received Ukrainian citizenship.

“It has happened! I am now a citizen of Ukraine!” Kaplan wrote on Facebook on May 17 afternoon.

As reported, in August 2015, the North Caucasus District Military Court sentenced Sentsov, who was detained in Russia-occupied Crimea in 2014, to 20 years in a high-security penitentiary on counts of “forming a terrorist group” in Crimea. Sentsov denied all charges.

Sentsov went on hunger strike on May 14, 2018, and demanded that all Ukrainians incarcerated in Russia be released. He stopped his hunger strike on Oct. 6, 2018.
