Russia-backed separatists shelled the Ukrainian Armed Forces positions in Donbas war zone two times since the beginning of the day as of 6:00 p.m. on January 9, Ukrainian military did not open fire in response, the Ukrainian Army headquarters reported.

“Despite the agreements on the New Year-Christmas truce, the Russian-backed separatists were not able to fully ensure the silence regime,” it the press center of the Ukrainian Military headquarters wrote on Facebook on January 9 evening.

In the Luhansk sector, at lunchtime separatists shelled at infantry armament against the Ukrainian military to provoke them to open fire.

In the Donetsk sector, militants from Sosnovsky beyond the Ukrainian government control fired from large-caliber machine guns, small arms and 82-mm caliber mortars at the Ukrainian forces positions near Pavlopil.

“All in all, from the beginning of the day, the separatists conducted two shellings of the positions of the Ukrainian forces, Ukrainian soldiers did not open fire in response,” the headquarters said.
