You're reading: Servant of People faction proposes to introduce fines for promoting homosexuality

Members of parliament from the Servant of the People faction Georgy Mazurashu and Olena Lis propose to introduce administrative responsibility for promoting homosexuality and transgenderism in Ukraine.

Relevant bill No. 3917 was registered in the parliament, the Verkhovna Rada said on its website.

The authors of the bill propose to amend the Code of Administrative Offenses of Ukraine regarding responsibility for promoting homosexuality and transgenderism.

The bill proposes to expand the Code with a new article on promotion of homosexuality or transgenderism, which may affect physical or mental health, moral or spiritual condition and development of a person.

The MPs propose to fine citizens for promoting homosexuality or transgenderism in the amount of 1,000 of non-taxable minimum incomes of citizens, and legal entities – in the amount of 3,000 of non-taxable minimum incomes of citizens.

According to the bill, public promotion of homosexuality or transgenderism, which is expressed in a public demonstration of the lifestyle of persons who have same-sex sexual relations or identify themselves with the sex opposite to their biological orientation and behavior, is punishable by a fine of 5,000 of tax-free minimum incomes of citizens.

“The promotion of homosexuality or transgenderism, which may affect the physical or mental health, moral or spiritual condition and development of a person, by an official, as well as assistance to such promotion, entails the imposition of a fine in the amount of 8,000 of non-taxable minimum incomes of citizens,” the MPs said in the bill.

According to the explanatory note to the bill, its goal is to strengthen the protection of families, childhood, motherhood and fatherhood at the legislative level.
