Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal called on local Commission on Manmade Disaster, Emergency Response in Kyiv, Kharkiv and Sumy to independently strengthen anti-epidemic measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19), according to the Uriadovy Portal online platform.

“The local authorities asked to be given more powers. Now they have enough powers to effectively contain the spread of coronavirus. I ask you to take the initiative and put things in order. This is our common responsibility,” Shmyhal said.

Shmyhal also instructed the heads of Regional and Kyiv City State Administrations and heads of health departments to provide 80% of beds for COVID-19 patients with oxygen by Oct. 30.

“Today at a government meeting, we allocated Hr 572 million for these purposes. Our goal is that at least 80% of beds are provided with oxygen. Please organize everything by the end of the month. This is your responsibility,” Shmyhal said.
