The third energy unit of the Ukraine’s Rivne Nuclear Power Plant was reconnected to the grid at 11:59 a.m. local time after reasons that led to its shut down were eliminated, the press service of the Ukraine’s Energoatom state company said.

“Power ascension has continued,” the press service said.

“There are no issues with the work of the core equipment of the active energy units and of the personnel. Limits and conditions of safe exploitation were not breached,” it said.

It was reported earlier that the third energy unit of the Rivne NPP was disconnected from the grid at 11:54 p.m. local time on Jan. 18.

“Stop valves were set down, the TG-5 turbine generator was disconnected from the power supply and the capacity of the reactor plant of the Rivne NPP’s unit No. 3 was reduced to 37 percent as part of technological protection shutdown,” Energoatom’s press service said earlier.

The Rivne NPP is located in the city of Varash, northwest of the Rivne region. There are energy units with total capacity of 2.835 MW. The first energy unit is a VVER-440 reactor with a capacity of 0.42 MW has operated since 1980. The second is a VVER-440 reactor with a capacity of 0.415 MW has operated since 1981. The third unit is a VVER-1000 reactor with a capacity of 1 MW has operated since 1986. The fourth unit is VVER-1000 with a capacity of 1 MW has operated since 2004.
