Ukraine and Georgia should unite their efforts to achieve joint goals – membership in the European Union and NATO, Georgian Parliament Speaker Irakli Kobakhidze said.

“Our states have common challenges, and therefore we should unite our efforts to respond to them and achieve our goals… Our main goal is the full membership in the European Union and NATO. In this context, it is very important to unite our efforts so that it does happen,” Kobakhidze said at a joint briefing with Verkhovna Rada Speaker Andriy Parubiy in Kyiv on Jan.17.

In turn, the Ukrainian parliament speaker expressed his belief that this goal will be ultimately achieved. “I am sure that it is only a matter of time when Ukraine and Georgia will become members of the EU and NATO,” Parubiy said.

In addition, Kobakhidze noted the common experience of Russian aggression both for Ukraine and for Georgia. “The common challenges are the occupation of our territories and aggression by the Russian Federation, in this context cooperation between our states is very important,” he said.

“We strongly condemn the annexation of Crimea and Russia’s aggressive actions in Donbas,” the Georgian speaker said.
