Speed control on roads will be resumed in Ukraine from October 8, Ukrainian Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman has said.

“Since Monday, we are restoring speed control on the roads. The first week is in the warning mode, and then we use all the mechanisms for punishing violators. We do it not for fines,” he wrote on his Facebook page on October 4.

According to the prime minister, in addition to speed control, there will be mobilization of all means of monitoring the situation on the roads, monitoring compliance with technical standards of transport, especially public, tight weight control, as well as a separate program for the protection of children and the introduction of reflective clothing items so that children can be seen.

“We must reduce the accident rate and death rate on the roads by at least a third,” he said.

Late July Infrastructure Minister Volodymyr Omelyan announced the initiative to return speed control on the roads.
