Two Russian citizens asked for a refugee status in Ukraine at the international automobile checkpoint Hoptovka (Kharkiv region) on Jan. 15 morning, the press service of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine said.
“A 47-year-old citizen of Russia and her 20-year-old daughter, who came from the neighboring country on foot with a small child, while passing the border control, asked the Kharkiv border guards to help with a refugee status,” a statement says.
During the conversation, women said that, in connection with the Ukrainian origin and Ukrainian citizenship of granddaughter they could not find a job and did not receive proper medical care in Russia.
“Being tired of the constant harassment by ethnicity, they were forced to ask for a refugee status, as they felt fear for their life and the life of a child,” the Ukrainian Border Guard Service said.
Russian citizens were sent to the State Migration Service in the Kharkiv region after the registration of the relevant documents.
