You're reading: State Border Service: Ukrainians increase trips abroad by 6.5 percent in 2016

Some 24.7 million Ukrainian tourists travelled abroad in 2016, which is 6.5 percent more than in 2015, the Economic Development and Trade Ministry has said, with reference to data from the State Border Guard Service.

The agency noted in the last seven years the number of tourists was annually growing: from 17.2 million in 2010 to 19.8 million in 2011, 21.4 million in 2012 and 23.8 million in 2013. Only the year of 2014, when the figure fell to 22.4 million, was an exception.

According to the State Border Guard Service, most often Ukrainian citizens visit Poland – 41 percent of all trips. Over the past year their number increased by 6.4 percent, and in two years by one-third.

At the same time, the number of travelers to Russia in the past year decreased by 6.1 percent, and for two years by 17.4 percent.

As a result, the share of the Russian Federation fell to 15.6 percent from 20.8 percent in 2014.

Hungary ranks third among the top three most popular destinations among Ukrainian tourists with 11.7 percent of all trips.

The number of Ukrainians traveling to this country last year increased by 18.5 percent, and in two years by 34.4 percent.
