Washington urges to find the perpetrators of the murder of Ukrainian journalist Pavel Sheremet and bring them to justice, U.S. State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert said on July 20.

“One year ago today, Ukrayinska Pravda journalist Pavel Sheremet was killed in a car bombing in Kyiv. Regrettably, no one has been accountable for his murder. We want to extend our deepest sympathies to his family and friends,” she said at a briefing.

“And we urge the Government of Ukraine to use all available resources to bring those responsible to justice,” Nauert said.

She said the United States commends the efforts of the courageous journalists like Sheremet who expose corruption and promote a free and open exchange of ideas.

“We underscore the importance of protecting journalists and ensuring that the perpetrators of this murder face justice,” the spokesperson said.

It was reported earlier that a car belonging to Olena Prytula, the head of the Ukrayinska Pravda online publication, had been blown up while Sheremet was driving it in central Kyiv at 7:45 a.m. on July 20, 2016. The journalist died on the spot soon after the explosion.
