You're reading: Statistics: Deflation in Ukraine stands at 0.6 percent in July

Consumer prices in Ukraine in July 2019 decreased by 0.6% compared to June of this year, while in annual terms inflation was fixed at 9.1 percent, the State Statistics Service of Ukraine has said.

According to data earlier provided by the State Statistics Service, deflation in Ukraine in June 2019 amounted to 0.5 percent, while in May inflation was recorded at a level of 0.7 percent, in April at 1 percent.

In annual terms, the growth of consumer prices in July 2019 slightly accelerated to 9.1 percent from 9 percent from June and slowed from 9.6 percent from May.

Underlying deflation in July compared with June 2019 was 0.1 percent. In June, this figure was 0 percent, in May 0.2 percent, and in April some 0.4 percent.

Prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages in July decreased by 0.7 percent. Prices for vegetables fell most of all (13.6 percent). Prices for milk, cereals, sour cream, sunflower oil, cheese, and butter decreased by 0.3-0.1 percent. At the same time, those for eggs rose by 15.2 percent, sugar, fruits, bread, pasta, meat and meat products, fish and fish products grew by 2.9-0.7 percent.

Prices for alcoholic drinks and tobacco products increased by 1.1 percent, in particular for tobacco products by 1.6 percent, alcohol by 0.5 percent.

Prices for clothing and footwear fell by 4.5 percent, in particular for shoes by 5.2 percent, clothes by 3.9 percent.

The decrease in tariffs for housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels by 2.3 percent was due to a decrease in natural gas prices by 10.4 percent. At the same time, there was an increase in tariffs for water supply by 0.8 percent, maintenance of houses and adjoining territories by 0.5 percent, sewage by 0.4 percent.

Fare in transport as a whole fell by 1.1 percent, mainly due to the cheapening of fuels and oils by 3.2 percent and vehicles by 1.1 percent.
