You're reading: Supreme Council of Justice dismisses 91 Crimean judges

The Ukrainian High Council of Justice has dismissed 91 Crimean judges for committing a significant disciplinary offense.

The High Council of Justice adopted a corresponding decision at its meeting on May 11, having considered the issue of the dismissal of 98 judges of courts in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol.

These judges, while in the status of judges of Ukraine, carried out legal proceedings and passed judgments based on the legislation of the Russian Federation, in the Russian language, using symbols of another state, or applied to the Supreme Qualification Board of Judges of the Russian Federation for recommending them for the positions of judges of the illegally established Republic of Crimea within the Russian Federation, the council said.

In the opinion of the High Council of Justice, such actions discredit the title of judge and undermine the authority of justice.

As reported, in late March, the Prosecutor’s Office of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea completed the pre-trial investigation and sent indictments against 17 former members of the Supreme Council of Crimea accused of high treason to court. A total of 31 indictments against former members of the Crimean Supreme Council have been sent to the court.
