The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) is investigating about 400 corruption cases, which the judiciary branch is not ready to consider, Director of the NABU Artem Sytnyk has said.

“On average, there are about 400 cases. And now we have 620 employees out of 700 possible employees. In the near future, several detectives will be appointed. …Every day investigative actions are conducted. This process is gaining momentum rapidly, since we are constantly increasing the number of people, and these people are constantly providing internal communication and, accordingly, our resources are constantly growing with new investigations. But these cases are sabotaged at courts,” he said in an interview with Channel 5 on July 27 evening.

At the same time, Sytnyk said that the courts sabotage consideration of the corruption case on the Odesa Portside Plant.

“Everyone knows the situation with Odesa Portside Plant – one of the largest strategic enterprises is now on the verge of bankruptcy. We have been investigating and continue investigating several cases of corruption schemes at this enterprise, and one case was sent to court. What does the court do? Firstly, it turns consideration of this case into the secrecy procedure for unknown reasons, in a closed mode. Secondly, I learnt that the acting head of the Odesa Portside Plant wrote: “we have no complaints to these people who stole Hr 300 million – this is one of many schemes of this plant.” Therefore, how is it possible to save a strategic enterprise when we conduct arrests, investigate these cases, and the courts simply sabotage these cases,” he said.

Sytnyk said that today the judicial branch of power is not ready to consider corruption cases. He noted the need to create an anti-corruption court.
