You're reading: Talks on release of detainees continue

The negotiations on the release of detainees within the framework of the Trilateral Contact Group (TCG) continue, on Dec. 20, the parties will try to hold a Skype conference.

“We were not able to achieve what we wanted. I will not go into details and do not want to blame anyone: the negotiation process continues. Today we met with the president, talked about the results, I just talked with Gryzlov [Russian permanent representative to the TCG talks Boris Gryzlov]. We must still try tomorrow, without delay, to hold a Skype conference on this issue. To do everything to free people before the New Year, at least some number,” said Darka Olifer, the spokesperson for second President of Ukraine and representative in the Trilateral Contact Group Leonid Kuchma.

According to the Olifer, it was unknown whether the agreement could be reached but Kuchma promised that the group would do its best for the detained Ukrainians could celebrate New Year at home.

It was also noted that President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky raises the issue of releasing the detainees as of priority one, “he has a colossal desire to achieve a result.”

As reported, the TCG has not reached an agreement concerning exchange of detainees during the meeting in Minsk on Dec.18.
