The Armed Forces of Ukraine have made significant progress in achieving compatibility with the armed forces of the NATO member states thanks to close cooperation with advisers of the Alliance, in particular, the American ones, Minister of Defense of Ukraine Andriy Taran has said.

The minister made the corresponding statement during a joint briefing with U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, answering journalists’ questions.

“From the very beginning of my tenure as defense minister, I realized that our main task is to achieve compatibility with NATO countries. On this path, we have advanced very far precisely thanks to close cooperation with advisers of the Alliance, in particular the American ones,” Taran said.

He added that the Ukrainian army has unique combat experience, which it is ready to share with its partners.

“We are not just learning, but also sharing our experience in fighting against the armed aggression of the Russian Federation. Because such experience, which the Ukrainian army possesses, perhaps no one else in the world has,” the minister summed up.

As reported, on October 19, during the visit of the United States Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin to Kyiv, the heads of the defense departments of Ukraine and the United States discussed the most critical projects to develop the fundamental capabilities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

“We discussed the procedure for the practical implementation of the agreements reached, as well as the prospects for our cooperation … We considered specific, most critical projects for the development of fundamental capabilities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which are important for ensuring the defense of our state on land, in the air, at sea, as well as in cyberspace,” Taran said at a briefing in Kyiv on Tuesday following talks with U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin.
