Three servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine have been injured in the east of the country over the past day, spokesperson of the Defense Ministry Oleksandr Motuzianyk said.

“Over the past day none Ukrainian soldier has been killed, three wounded: two soldiers – in the Troyitske and Avdiyivka, one more soldier – in the area of Svitlodarsk bulge,” he said at a briefing in Kyiv on Jan. 26.

Russian-backed separatists used small arms against positions near Novozvanivka and fired 50 mortar mines in Troitske in the Luhansk sector, Motuzyanyk said. In all, 14 shelling incidents were seen in that region, including two with the use of heavy weapons, he said.

Avdiyivka remained the center of tensions in the Donetsk sector, where hostile fire from small arms and mortars was intense, Motuzyanyk said. There were two shelling incidents in the Svitlodarsk bulge and another three on the northern outskirts of Horlivka. Seven shelling incidents occurred in the Donetsk sector over the past day, in all, he said.

In the Mariupol sector, separatists employed Grad-B (Partizan) rocket launchers near Krasnohorivka, Motuzianyk said. Sniper rifle fire, machine guns and grenade launcher were also observed there, and artillery and mortars were used during the night, he said. Twenty-seven shelling incidents were observed in the Mariupol sector in the past 24 hours, including seven with use of heavy weapons.
