MOSCOW – U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson told Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov during their recent meeting that Crimea-related sanctions imposed on Russia will remain in place until Russia returns control of the peninsula to Ukraine, the U.S. Embassy to Russia said.

“As Secretary Tillerson made clear during his recent meeting with Foreign Minister Lavrov, sanctions on Russia will remain in place until Russia fully implements the Minsk agreements, and Crimea-related sanctions will remain until Russia returns control of the peninsula to Ukraine,” the embassy’s spokesperson told Interfax.

Negotiations of Lavrov and Tillerson took place in Washington on May 10.
