MOSCOW – If Azerbaijan expresses an interest in joining the Eurasian Economic Union, Armenia will have “a special opinion” on this matter, Armenian Ambassador to Russia Vardan Toghanyan said.

“There is a certain procedure for joining the Eurasian Economic Union, which is outlined in the charter documents. The decision will be made by the EAEU members, there are now five of them. Accordingly, if Azerbaijan puts forward such initiative, our country will, of course, have its own special opinion,” Toghanyan said in an interview with Interfax.

The ambassador would not say what precisely the position of Armenia will be, saying it will depend on what status of Baku in the association will be discussed.

“Specifically, it depends on what precisely initiative will be put forward by Azerbaijan: whether it will want to become an observer or a full-fledged member. We will form our position accordingly and we will definitely have it on this matter,” Toghanyan said.
