The Qualification and Disciplinary Commission of prosecutors has opened disciplinary proceedings against chief military prosecutor of Ukraine Anatoliy Matios, the anti-corruption organization Transparency International Ukraine has said.

“Today, the Ukrainian representative office of the international anti-corruption network Transparency International has received a decision of the disciplinary commission of prosecutors to open disciplinary proceedings against the chief military prosecutor,” Transparency International Ukraine said on its Facebook page on August 15.

The organization said that after Matios placed information on his personal page on Facebook, using obscene language, on May 25, Transparency International Ukraine appealed to the Qualification and Disciplinary Commission of prosecutors with a disciplinary complaint about improper behavior of Matios, as his action “is a violation of the requirements of Article 16 of the Code of Professional Ethics and Behavior of Prosecutors.”

In addition, the organization says that journalist Oleksiy Bobrovnykov publicly reported on June 23 that Matios offered him $10,000 for preparing a journalistic plot to cover the progress of the investigation into a particular criminal proceeding in a favorable light. “This is a violation of the requirements of Articles 16, 21, 28 of the Code of Professional Ethics and Conduct of Prosecutors,” Transparency International Ukraine said.
