You're reading: Trump unhappy about Crimea, but recalls that this happened under Obama

U.S. President Donald Trump has said that he is dissatisfied with the situation with Russia’s annexation of Crimea and the militarization of the peninsula but stresses that this was all made possible by former U.S. President Barack Obama.

“That’s an interesting question because long before I got here President Obama allowed that to happen, that was under his watch, not my watch. People like to say, ‘Oh Crimea,’ but the fact is they built bridges to Crimea, they built I think a submarine port. What will happen with Crimea from this point, that I cannot tell you. But I am not happy about Crimea, but again that was Barack Obama’s watch, not Trump’s watch,” he said at a press conference in Brussels on July 12 as part of the NATO summit, while answering journalists’ question about the annexation of Crimea.
