Ukrainian tennis player Lesia Tsurenko has won her first round match at the Wimbledon tennis championship, defeating Hungarian Timea Babos.

Tsurenko, 29, beat Babos on July 2 with a score of 7-5, 6-2. The match lasted 73 minutes.
Tsurenko ranks 34th in the Women’s Tennis Association ranking.

The Ukrainian started the first set confidently, breaking her opponent’s serve. She then led 3-1, but Babos powered back to win three games in a row. But with the score at 4-5, the Ukrainian also went on to win three games in a row, and the first set ended at 7-5 in favor of the Ukrainian.

In the second set, Tsurenko continued her winning streak to take a 4-0 lead in the set. Babos managed to hold her serve twice more, but failed to break back, and so the second set ended at 6-2 in Tsurenko’s favor.

Tsurenko goes on to the second round and will face Russia’s Svetlana Kuznetsova or the Czech Republic’s Barbora Strycova.
