You're reading: Twelve films to compete for Odesa Film Festival grand prix

ODESA – The selection committee has chosen 12 films from China, Ukraine, Serbia, Austria, Lithuania, Israel, Estonia, France, Brazil, Georgia, Belgium, and Spain to compete for the Grand Prix of the Odesa International Film Festival – the Golden Duke – and other awards of the International Competition.

All in all, 911 films from 81 countries were submitted for participation in the competition program, the festival reported in a press release.

The national program will include six features and 17 short films, and two Ukrainian films will participate in both the International and the National competitions.

German film director Christian Petzold, a winner of the Silver Bear of the 62nd Berlin Film Festival (‘Barbara’) will head this year’s jury. The International Jury will also include German actress Sibel Kekilli, winner of the Lola, Bambi and Undine Awards; Ukrainian actress Rimma Zyubina, winner of the Golden Dzyga Award (‘The Nest of the Turtledove’), Romanian director Tudor Giurgiu, member of the European Film Academy, founder and president of the Transilvania International Film Festival, the initiator of the Romanian National Film Award, founder of the production company Libra Film etc, film composer Evgeniy Galperin, whose music serves as soundtrack to many films, including ‘The Family’ (directed by Luc Besson), ‘Battle for Sevastopol’ (directed by Sergei Mokritskiy), ‘Nine Lives’.

The Odesa International Film Festival will be held on June 14-22, 2017.
