Two employees of the Boryspil International Airport have been arrested for accepting kickbacks involving tenders, Kyiv region’s Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO) has said.

“Kyiv region’s PGO has detained two officials of Boryspil airport for receiving kickbacks amounting to Hr 141,000 ($4,984). The officials demanded the money from commercial entities participating in tenders,” Kyiv region’s PGO said on its Facebook page on the evening of Aug. 29.

The post said the head of the airport’s purchasing department and head of the airport’s logistics department were involved.

“The individuals used their positions for personal gain. They influenced tenders for hiring, purchasing goods and services, allowing commercial entities participate in tenders and receiving kickbacks of between 10 to 20 percent of the tender award,” prosecutors said.

Some Hr 40,000 was seized from one of the men, and Hr 101,000 from the other during searches of their homes and offices on Aug. 29.

They are both being investigated under Article 208 of Ukraine’s Criminal Code.

“As of 10:30 in the morning, searches at workplaces in the production building in which the offices of the staff of the tender procurement and logistics department are located continue,” the airport said.

Boryspil International Airport General Director Pavlo Riabikin said that he had signed an order to temporarily suspend all tender payments while the investigation is underway.
