CHORNOMORSK – The two defendants in the criminal case related to the events that took place on Odesa’s Hretska Square on May 2, 2014, who were acquitted earlier today, are currently facing the charges of separatism.

Russian national Yevgeny Mefedov and Ukrainian citizen Serhiy Dolzhenkov, the one who the investigation believed was an organizer of the May 2, 2014 mass riots are facing new charges under a Criminal Code article dealing with separatism, Dolzhenkov’s mother Tamara told Interfax-Ukraine.

The new charges are related to their participation in several protests in Mykolaiv back in the spring of 2014, she added.

The court earlier on Sept.18 found inadequate the prosecution’s evidence presented at court in support of the statement that the defendants had organized and participated in the riots entailing grave consequences, i.e., human deaths and injuries.
