Two Ukrainian soldiers were killed and five wounded near Maryinka, Donetsk region, as a result of an explosion of weapons that malfunctioned during the shelling by militants and response actions of Ukrainian fighters, the press center of the Ukrainian Military reports.

“Illegal armed units began to shell Ukrainian strongholds hear Maryinka approximately at 4:00 a.m. Ukrainian forces hit the Russia-backed separatists with a dense fire in retaliation. During this clash, one of our weapons went out of commission and exploded. As a result of this tragic incident, two Ukrainian troops were killed and five injured,” the press center said on Facebook in a report of 6:00 p.m. on August 8.

Law enforcement agencies are conducting an inquiry into this incident.
