You're reading: Two tourists stabbed to death in Egypt

Two female tourists were stabbed to death and four other tourists wounded at the two beaches in Egyptian city Hurghada in the afternoon on July 14, several local and foreign media reported, quoting the Egyptian Interior Ministry.

The initial reports said that the tourists were Ukrainian. Later, Egyptian authorities said that they were German.The attacker, who had reportedly swum to the resort from a public beach nearby, was immediately detained by the police, the report said. It is not yet known why he attacked the tourists.

The nationality of the wounded tourists is unknown.

The attacker had reportedly swum to two hotel beaches, attacking people with a knife before being detained at the second hotel. His motives aren’t known yet.

The wounded tourists were sent to a hospital for treatment.

Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry issued a statement recommending Ukrainians to avoid traveling to Egypt and advising those already in the country to not leave their hotels.
