Ukraine’s Defense Minister Stepan Poltorak and U.S. Senator Joe Donnelly during a meeting on Monday discussed the prospects for continuing support from the U.S.

“Permanent U.S. support, including political and material support, represents a priceless investment in ensuring security. We are focusing efforts on implementing real reforms and, thanks to our foreign partners, are convinced that our innovations will be implemented,” Poltorak was quoted as saying by the press service of Ukraine’s Defense Ministry.

“We daily witness how Ukraine is fighting for its freedom, is fights with a country that is intent on fomenting chaos,” Donnelly said.

The lawmaker said the U.S. in the future will be with Ukraine and continue to render unilateral support, irrespective of the outcome of the upcoming [presidential election on November 8].

“There are many people in the U.S. who are willing to do anything to support Ukraine, including United States Secretary of Defense Ashton Carter,” Donnelly said.

Poltorak informed Donnelly about military reforms underway in Ukraine. He said U.S. General John Philip Abizaid would arrive in Ukraine as an adviser in the coming days.
