Thousands paid their last respects in central Kyiv to Ukrainian soldiers who lost their lives in the latest front line battle near the Donetsk Oblast city of Avdiyivka. The ceremony was held on Independence Square on Feb. 1. More than 10,000 people, mostly civilians, have been killed since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine started in 2014.
