Head of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine Viktor Nazarenko has discussed reformation and development of internal and own security divisions of the border authority with representatives of the U.S. Embassy in Ukraine and the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

“After the meeting Nazarenko, Director of the International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) Section of the U.S. Embassy in Ukraine Chris Smith and Head of IOM Mission in Ukraine Manfred Profazi signed the road map to implement the relevant arrangements,” the press service of the State Border Guard Service reported.

“The signing of the road map raises many-year effective cooperation of the State Border Guard Service and IOM to a new level. Of course, this is an important step in practical fight against key threats the State Border Guard Service faces today,” Profazi said at the meeting.

Smith said that today Ukraine is surviving hard times. On one hand, the conflict with its eastern neighbor continues, and on the other hand, the country is destroyed inside by corruption, he said.

The United States provides comprehensive assistance to Ukraine in both areas, he said. The United States sees a political desire of Ukraine to change and reform and the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine can count on U.S. support, Smith said.
