You're reading: UIA welcomes development of airport in Hostomel

Ukraine International Airlines (UIA, Kyiv), the largest airline in the country, supports the idea of developing the airport in Hostomel, but believes it should be done not only for low cost airlines, Head of the UIA supervisory board Aron Maiberg said on the online conference on Liga.net portal on July 20.

“The idea of the prime minister to develop one more international airport in Ukraine is wonderful and sane. He [the prime minister] said: let’s make the base or low cost airlines there. I do not agree with him in the low cost word. I think that it is more interesting to make the base for any airlines there. One more airport is competition. We should be welcomed,” he said.

Maiberg said that it is good to transfer the airport in Hostomel to private governance.

“If the airport is made private, transferred to concession or privatized, it would be more interesting. We could see who manages more effectively. Then one cannot say that someone influences someone, as the pure economy would influence. The state would not pay money from the budget if they make a transparent investment project and announce a tender,” he said.
