Ambassador of the UK to Ukraine Melinda Simmons has expressed the hope that President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky would visit London soon.

She recalled that British Prime Minister Boris Johnson had invited the Ukrainian president to visit the UK and expressed the hope that this will happen soon, adding that the Foreign and Commonwealth Office would announce the date of the visit as soon as it is scheduled.

When asked whether Johnson would visit Ukraine, the diplomat said that such a visit was not planned in the near future. However, she recalled that Johnson had made his first visit in position of Foreign Minister to Ukraine, he also has visited Ukraine twice and had two phone conversations with Zelensky.

The ambassador said that the British prime minister has to focus on Brexit and his country for the moment. She added that it is more important that the Ukrainian Prime minister come to the UK and tell the real story of Ukraine there.

Simmons also said that the issue of strengthening military aid of the UK to Ukraine has not been on the agenda yet following Brexit, however, the defense ministers of both countries will discuss it during a visit of Defense Minister of Ukraine Andriy Zahorodniuk to London soon.
