You're reading: Ukraine army commander: Limited counteroffensives launched, new Russian losses claimed

Army top commander General Valery Zaluzhny said that Ukrainian Armed Forces (UAF) units have begun limited counterattacks in several sectors of the front, as Kyiv released on Wednesday, March 16, am new estimates of increasingly bloody Russian Federation losses.

Zaluzhny did not specify where the counterattacks are taking place or their results. UAF official announcements since Monday – at times confirmed by conventional or social media – have told of UAF limited advances in vicinities of Chuguev, Kharkiv, Mykolaiv and Donetsk region.

Zaluzhny said UAF casualties have been several times less than the severe damage suffered by RF forces. As the UAF attacks go forward, he said, the UAF command will continue to put a top priority on keeping Ukrainian soldiers killed and wounded to an absolute minimum, but added that more losses are inevitable.

“The life and health of each of our warriors is priceless. My condolences to the families of the victims. I promise, we will take revenge for each brother and sister, for peaceful Ukrainians, for our children,” Zaluzhny said.”

According to Wednesday estimates by Ukraine’s Army General Staff (AGS), since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine on Feb. 24 the Kremlin’s troops have lost more than  13,800 soldiers killed in action. AGS estimated confirmed RF equipment losses at: 81 combat jets, 108 helicopters, 430 tanks, 1,375 armored personnel carriers, 190 artillery pieces, 70 rocket artillery systems, 43 air defense systems, 819 cars and trucks, 60 fuel carriers, 11 UAVs and three naval cutters.
