You're reading: Ukraine, Austria sign cooperation agreement in education, science and culture spheres

In the presence of Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and Federal President of the Republic of Austria Alexander Van der Bellen, an agreement has been signed between the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine and the Government of the Republic of Austria on cooperation in the spheres of education, science and culture.

“The intergovernmental agreement is a framework one. It determines the directions and forms of cooperation agreed upon by the parties in the spheres of education, science and culture. In particular, it is about cooperation in the spheres of teaching and research between higher educational institutions and other scientific institutions, exchange of students and teachers,” the message, posted on March 14, reads.

The parties will also support the organization of cultural events: tours, exhibitions, concerts, festivals, theatrical performances and other artistic events. They will encourage contacts between museum institutions and libraries.

To implement the provisions of the agreement, a mixed commission will be established, which will include representatives of relevant authorities of the parties. Commission meetings should be held once every four years. The objectives of the commission are to assess the implementation of the agreements and specific projects, prepare proposals for further cooperation, including organizational and financial issues.

In addition, the agreement contains provisions on the support of the future activities of the “Ukrainian Institute” in the Republic of Austria.

The agreement will come into force upon completion by the parties of relevant domestic procedures – ratification by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and approval by the National Council of Austria.
