You're reading: Ukraine boosts natural gas transit by 25.7 percent

Ukraine in January boosted transit shipments of natural gas through its gas transmission system (GTS) by 25.7 percent (or 1.555 billion cubic meters, or bcm) compared to the same month of 2018, to 7.611 bcm, according to an update by JSC Ukrtransgaz.

Transit shipments of natural gas through Ukraine to Europe in January 2018 totaled 7.228 bcm and those to Moldova totaled 383 million cubic meters (mcm), according to Interfax-Ukraine’s estimates.

As reported, Ukraine in 2018 reduced transit shipments of natural gas through its gas transmission system (GTS) by 7.1 percent, by 6.678 bcm, compared to 2017, to 86.779 bcm. Transit supplies of natural gas through Ukraine to Europe for the year stood at 83.839 bcm (7.6 percent down from 2017) and to Moldova 2.940 bcm (8.6 percent up from 2017).

Ukrtransgaz, which is wholly owned by NJSC Naftogaz Ukrainy, operates the system of Ukraine’s gas pipelines and 12 underground gas storage facilities.
