Ukraine cut coal production 2.9% year-on-year in January-June 2017, to 18.436 million tonnes, the Energy and Coal Industry Ministry has told Interfax-Ukraine, quoting preliminary data.

Coking coal output fell by 24.7%, to 3.387 million tonnes, but production of steam coal increased by 3.8%, to 15.049 million tonnes.

State run mines reduced production by 21.5%, to 2.369 million tonnes, with coking coal output down 47.6%, to 449,900 tonnes and steam coal output falling 11.1%, to 1.919 million tonnes.

Coal mines in Donetsk region produced 6.326 million tonnes of coal, down 17.2% year-on-year, Luhansk region 1.514 million tonnes, down 21.8%, Dnipropetrovsk region 9.834 million tonnes, up 15.9%, Lviv region 705,000 tonnes, down 12.1% and Volyn region 56,800 tonnes, down 48.3%.

Coal production fell 1.8% year-on-year in June, to 2.645 million tonnes.
