As sources revealed that President Volodymyr Zelensky is weighing the appointment of oligarch and politician Sergiy Tigipko as his next prime minister, we’re looking back on Tigipkos’s history as featured in the Kyiv Post.

In 2014, we profiled Tigipko’s Strong Ukraine party and his ties to the then-recently ousted president Viktor Yanukovych’s Party of Regions. Tigipko mounted an unsuccessful presidential campaign with Strong Ukraine in 2010, though afterwards aligned himself with Yanukovych’s pro-Russian Party of Regions in a bid to maintain influence.

In addition to his political career, Tigipko is one of Ukraine’s richest men with assets throughout the country, including Kyiv’s Arena City business center, which he purchased last year.
