Putting the swirling rumors to rest, Prime Minister Oleksiy Honcharuk delivered his resignation to parliament on March 4 after weeks of speculation that he would be fired and whispers that President Volodymyr Zelensky was vetting candidates to replace him.

It’s not the first time Honcharuk has signaled he would leave the post. In January, Zelensky rejected Honcharuk’s offer to resign after an audio leak seemed to capture the official disparaging Zelensky’s intelligence.

Honcharuk, a former lawyer, served in the role since his appointment in late August 2019. Read the Kyiv Post’s coverage of Honcharuk from the time with “Oleksiy Honcharuk named prime minister Cabinet approved.”
