Ukraine will launch the batch production of the Vilkha (Alder) missile complex after tests, which started in Odesa on Tuesday, are over, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has said.

“I congratulate the developers of the Vilkha missile complex on the start of state tests! After the tests are over, Ukraine will launch the batch production of this super system,” Poroshenko wrote on Facebook on April 10 night.

Earlier on April 10, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine (NSDC) Oleksandr Turchynov said that the state tests of the Vilkha missile complex had begun in the south of Odesa region.

The testing will be held in several phases designed to check whether the tactical and technical characteristics of the missile are in line with the specified parameters, the NSDC press center told Interfax-Ukraine on April 10.

“Thanks to the efforts of all those who have worked on this project, we have got a powerful missile weapon, which is better than the Russian analog Smerch by all odds,” Turchynov said.

He also said that after the large-scale testing, the equipment will be used by the Ukrainian army and the Ukrainian defense industry will launch its batch production.

As was reported, the Vilkha complex successfully passed tests in December 2017. Poroshenko said then that Hr 1.6 billion should be allocated for the purchase and production of new military hardware and weapons, including the Vilkha complex.
