You're reading: Ukraine looking into automatic disconnection of Zaporizhia NPP power unit

Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant’s power unit No. 1 has been disconnected from the power grid by means of automatic equipment at 3.09 p.m. on May 21 and specialists are ascertaining the reasons behind automatic equipment activation, the press service of Ukraine’s Energoatom Company said.

“At the time three power units are operating at the Zaporizhia NPP. The aggregate capacity of the power generators amounts to 2,670 MW. There are no questions to the operation of the active power units’ main equipment and the work of staff,” it said in a statement released at about 5 p.m. on May 21.

The radiation background in the vicinity of the Zaporizhia NPP and in the 2.5-kilometer sanitary protection zone around the NPP is 8-12 micro-roentgens per hour that meets natural background values, the statement indicated.
