Ukraine is opposed to the disengagement of forces along the whole disengagement line in Donbas, because this “is at odds with the essence of the Minsk Agreements” and will lead to the conflict being frozen, Ukrainian Defense Minister Andriy Zahorodniuk said.

“We oppose disengagement along the whole line, as this way is wrong, and this contravenes the very essence of the Minsk Agreements. Disengage with whom, if they should be disarmed themselves? In fact, there are many reasons, but this is the main one. This is like various tracks, which do not coincide,” Zahorodniuk said in an interview with Interfax-Ukraine.

Disengagement along the whole of the 410-kilometer-long disengagement line could take years, he said.

“How can we carry out disengagement for years? It would grow into a frozen conflict. Recognition of a frozen conflict is categorically unacceptable for us,” Zahorodniuk said.
