You're reading: Ukraine raises coal imports by 42.9 percent in 5 months

Ukraine in January-May of this year increased imports of coal and anthracite (foreign economic activity code 2701) by 42.9 percent (by 2.777 million tonnes) compared to the same period in 2017, to 9.246 million tonnes.

According to the State Fiscal Service, coal imports cost $1.249 billion, which is 20.6 percent more than in January-May 2017 ($1.036 billion).

At the same time, Russia supplied coal for $826.656 million (66.19 percent of imports), the United States for $343.637 million (27.51 percent), Canada for $48.365 million (3.87 percent), and other countries for $30.262 million (2.42 percent).

In addition, Ukraine in January-May 2018 exported 44,879 tonnes of coal and anthracite worth $7.863 million, in particular to Russia for $4.597 million, to Slovakia for $3.201 million, Poland for $25,000, and other countries for $40,000.

As reported, Ukraine plans in 2018 to increase import of steam coal by 11.3 percent compared to 2017, to 5.669 million tonnes.
