In Ukraine, more than two dozen Russian citizens, detained in Donbas for participating in illegal armed groups, were convicted, whom Kyiv is ready to exchange for Ukrainian citizens held in prisons in the territory of the Russian Federation, First Deputy Speaker of the Ukrainian Parliament and Ukraine’s envoy to the Trilateral Contact Group’s humanitarian subgroup Iryna Gerashchenko has said.

“Regarding the issue of the hostage-taking, the Ukrainian side once again reminded the Russian participants of the group that more than twenty Russian “insurgents” were detained and convicted in Donbas. And we are ready to hand them over to the Russian Federation in exchange for releasing the Kremlin prisoners held in Russian prisons and advocating activation of this process,” Gerashchenko wrote on her Facebook page on March 15 following a meeting of the TCG in Minsk on March 14.

“We are also ready for all sound compromises for the liberation of our military and civilians from prisons in the occupied territories. Unfortunately, despite all our efforts to speed up the rescue wave of liberation, there is no progress so far,” she added.
