Ukraine has received the second tranche of the EU non-repayable financial assistance in the amount of 55.125 million euro as part of the financing agreement signed by the Government of Ukraine and the European Commission in 2014.

“This assistance means the recognition of the reform by the EU,” the Finance Ministry of Ukraine reported on Dec. 27.

The Ministry said that these funds were provided after the European Commission assessed the implementation by Ukraine of reforms in the areas of combating corruption, improving public procurement, transparency and accountability in public finances management, and public administration sector reform, reform of administrative services, the introduction of the constitutional reform and harmonization of the electoral law and the law on financing of political parties.

The Finance Ministry said that the equivalent of these funds in the national currency, same as the first tranche of funds, will go to finance the expenditures of the general fund of the state budget of Ukraine.

The ministry said this is the final installment in the framework of this international treaty with the EU, and the first tranche in the amount of 250 million euro was received in July 2014.

As reported, Ukraine also expected to get 600 million euro in the second tranche of the EU macro-financial assistance in the second half of 2016. However, the EU refused to provide this tranche until Kyiv cancels ban on round timber exports and settle the situation with assistance to IDPs.
