Russia-backed separatists in Donbas continue shelling positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, using mortars of various calibers that are banned under the Minsk peace agreements, the press center of the Ukrainian Military said on December 5 evening.

“Since midnight, the Russia-backed separatists have already violated the ceasefire 13 times in total,” the Ukrainian Army said on Facebook in an update as of 6:00 p.m. local time on December 5.

The Luhansk sector has remained a hot spot in the Donbas war for many days in a row. Separatists again opened fire from 120mm mortars near the villages of Novozvanivka, Katerynivka, and Maiske. Separatists mounted several attacks from grenade launchers on Ukrainian army positions near the village of Krymske and the town of Svitlodarsk. Ukrainian Army stationed in the village of Zaitseve were attacked by an infantry fighting vehicle, while small arms were used near the villages of Lobacheve and Novoluhanske.

“In the Donetsk sector, the occupiers lobbed over fifty 82mm shells into areas not far from the town of Avdiyivka and the village of Opytne. They used grenade launchers and large-caliber machine guns to fire on our positions near the village of Talakivka,” the Ukrainian Army said.
