You're reading: Ukraine sets conditions for implementation of political bloc of Minsk agreements

Kyiv’s position on the implementation of the political bloc of the Minsk agreements should be clear and definite, First Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada and Ukraine’s representative in the humanitarian subgroup of the Trilateral Contact Group Iryna Gerashchenko has said.

Ukraine has fulfilled the political bloc of the Minsk agreements by adopting a law on amnesty and local self-governance, Herashchenko said on her Facebook page on Sunday.

“But these laws did not take effect because of Russia and the Kremlin who held illegal elections in 2014 and 2018 in the occupied territories,” she said.

In the first place, the Russian decrees on the recognition of the so-called documents of certain areas of Donetsk and Luhansk regions, and also the decree on the issuance of Russian passports to residents of certain areas of Donetsk and Luhansk regions need to be reversed. All pseudo-authorities in these areas need to be dissolved.

Gerashchenko again said that regional elections can only be held in Donbas after demilitarization and in accordance with Ukrainian laws.

The key moment should be the firm position of Ukraine not to hold “any direct talks with puppet regimes created by Russia,” she said. “No legitimization of the pseudo-republics,” Herashchenko said.

Herashchenko also stressed the need to introduce a sustainable cease fire regime, withdraw Russian equipment and weapons, and implement the humanitarian bloc, including the release of illegally detained persons in certain areas of Donetsk and Luhansk regions and the Russian Federation.
